Cycle4Dreams 2019

Dream4Kids

Dream4Kids organizes special days to make all the biggest dreams come true of a traumatized child between the ages of 6 and 12. A complex childhood trauma may come in the form of mourning, divorces, (sexual) abuse or neglect. Dream4Kids works to disrupt the negative spiral that these children are in and makes their greatest dreams come true. This ‘dream day’ allows the children to overcome their past and find hope for their future, helping them to develop the intrinsic courage and energy necessary to believe in their own dreams.

What is Cycle4Dreams?

As a cyclist, you undoubtedly have a dream: climbing the Amstel Gold Race, the Alpe d'Huez or the Col du Galibier… In addition to fulfilling your own dreams, you can now also realize the dreams of children who are coping with a complex childhood trauma.

On Saturday, 31st August 2019, Dream4Kids will host its fourth Cycle4Dreams event, bringing back the most fun and welcoming sponsored event of the year! This summer we will climb the highest mountain in France: Col de Galibier. Together we can make a difference by raising funds for children who suffer from trauma, helping this often overlooked target group overcome mountains of their own.

Accommodation

This weekend (29.08 - 01.09) is all about having a great time together in support. Accommodation includes breakfast and dinner. On Saturday, we will enjoy a BBQ dinner and end the evening with some drinks.

Col du Galibier

The Col du Galibier is one of the most famous passes in the French Alps. Due to its strategic position it was, until 2016, taken up 56 times in the course of the Tour de France. This makes this pass the clear leader in the Alps. Another reason for the fame of the Galibier is its elevation. With 2652 meters it ranks as the number six of the passes in the Alps. If the ascent from the north, from Valloire, is extended with the ascent of the Télégraphe towards Valloire (information is yet missing on this website), then this combination could be the hardest climb in the French Alps. The difficulty of the climb from Valloire is caused rather by the large number of elevation meters than by the slope. With a slope of 10.4%, the steepest kilometer is not too hard. On the first ten kilometers from Valloire to Plan Lachat the road heads fairly straight southward through a valley. The gradient fluctuates strongly but barely exceeds 8%. The last eight kilometers are harder, mostly 8-9%, without opportunity to recover on an easier section. Here the road runs through a fantastic background of high, rugged mountain faces. One kilometer before coming to the pass, one turns left before the tunnel. This is followed by a steep part (10-11%). From the pass there is a breathtaking view to the south on the summits of the Écrins massif, which is covered with snow and ice.
